In 2007 / 2008 The Youth Hostel Association asked us to help them. At the time (and currently still) they operated a chain in excess of 200 Youth Hostels most of which were unlicensed.
In order to diversify its client base / broaden its appeal we were instructed to make applications for new 24 hour Premises Licences in respect of approximately 120 of their hostels.
The YHA’s decision to sell alcohol around the clock sparked multiple protests from local residents and the story made the National press and evening television news.
“Our food and beverage team have been extremely happy with the work that Andrew and his team have done.”
Simon Brister, Solicitor for Youth Hostel Association
The applications were handled during the later part of 2007 and early 2008 (our team is essentially the same now as it was then).
The process was completed within a 3 month period and all but one Licence was granted (from the Scottish borders to Lands End, many of which were highly contentious) following some 35 hearings with no resulting appeals. The YHA was delighted with the outcome and continues to remain a client of the Licensing Department today.
