We are delighted to support one of the largest deals in the region, involving Derby County Football Club and Mel Morris, which took place this month.
Martyn Brierley, William Bowler and Stephen McCarthy advised the sellers, North American Derby Partners LP, the former owners of Derby County Football Club, on the sale of their interests to Derby entrepreneur Mel Morris for an undisclosed sum.
This deal completed their divestment after Mel Morris reinvested in the club in May 2014, taking a 20% holding in the Championship football club.
The acquisition began in May 2015 when a local born businessman, Mel Morris, was appointed Chairman of the Club.
A spokesperson for Flint Bishop said “We’re delighted to represent our client, North American Derby Partners LP on this significant deal in Derby. Their support and dedication to the club during their difficult season in 2007-2008 is a testament to their loyalty, and their influence on the Club has positioned it very well for the next chapter. It was a pleasure to work alongside all parties and I personally look forward to seeing the Rams during the new season.”
Bill Luby, a Partner at North American Derby Partners LP said “We consider ourselves fortunate to have had Ran Oren and the team at Flint Bishop represent us, both during our ownership of Derby County Football Club and in the ultimate sale of the Club. Ran worked tirelessly on our behalf and was thoughtful and creative in his advice and execution.”
This deal was significant to our Corporate Finance team who have been working on some of the region’s largest corporate deals this year. In the last few months alone they have worked on deals with a total value of almost £100m.
