We have been recognised in multiple disciplines in The Legal 500’s recommendations for 2017.

We are also the only firm with its head office in Derby to be listed in The Legal 500 as a major East Midlands player in the regional overview.

This accolade of listings follows on from a highly successful year, achieving record-breaking turnover, winning the 2017 CCR Credit Excellence Award’s Collections category and increasing our workforce significantly, now boasting a 170-strong team of lawyers, legal experts and support staff.

The Legal 500 is the leading guide to law firms, assessing strengths in over 100 jurisdictions and highlighting those providing the most cutting-edge and innovative advice. Research and ranking are then verified by researchers who have unrivalled experience in the legal market, including interviews with clients, peers and other professionals.

Qamer Ghafoor has been acknowledged as one of only seven “regionwide” Leading Lawyers, specifically for Commercial Litigation. The Legal 500 commented that Qamer “makes a client’s dispute his own, battling for the very best outcome with passion and steely charm.”

His Commercial Litigation team has been ranked Tier 1 (the highest tier achievable) for their work in the past twelve months, including defending national insurance firm, Haven Insurance in the Supreme Court. Nick Wells and Lorna Trueman from the firms’ Commercial Litigation, Property Litigation, Debt Recovery and Professional Negligence teams were also recommended.

Andrew Cochrane has once again been highlighted as a Leading Lawyer in his field of Licensing, leading a team undergoing a period of significant growth from working with national pub and hotel operators.

Sixteen lawyers have been individually highlighted in total this year, even more than in 2016. Other recommended departments and individuals not already mentioned include; Property team members Ian Beardmore and Bev Simms; Robert Tice and Emma Tice for Employment; along with all partners from the Commercial and Corporate & Finance departments, David Miller, Martyn Brierley and Rachel Bennett.

The Legal 500’s research includes speaking with key clients and associated professionals for each of the recommended law firms, which then form the basis of the quotes published in the final The Legal 500 directory.
