Flint Bishop LLP, one of the East Midlands’ leading law firms, has been recognised in multiple disciplines in The Legal 500’s recommendations for 2017. Flint Bishop is also the only firm with its head office in Derby to be listed as a major East Midlands player in the regional overview.
This accolade of listings follows on from a highly successful year for Flint Bishop, achieving record-breaking turnover, winning the 2017 CCR Credit Excellence Award’s Collections category and increasing their workforce significantly, now boasting a 170-strong team of lawyers, legal experts and support staff.
The Legal 500 is the leading guide to law firms, assessing strengths in over 100 jurisdictions and highlighting those providing the most cutting-edge and innovative advice. Research and ranking is then verified by researchers who have unrivalled experience in the legal market, including interviews with clients, peers and other professionals.
Managing Partner for Commercial Services and Head of Litigation, Qamer Ghafoor has been acknowledged as one of only seven “region-wide” Leading Lawyers specifically for Commercial Litigation. The Legal 500 commented that Qamer “makes a client’s dispute his own, battling for the very best outcome with passion and steely charm.”
His Commercial Litigation department has been ranked Tier 1 (the highest tier achievable) for its work in the past twelve months, including defending national insurance firm, Haven Insurance in the Supreme Court. Partner, Nick Wells and Lorna Trueman from their Commercial Litigation, Property Litigation, Debt Recovery and Professional Negligence departments were also recommended.
Senior Partner Andrew Cochrane has once again been highlighted as a Leading Lawyer in his field of Licensing, leading a team undergoing a period of significant growth working with national pub and hotel operators and a special mention also has to go to Andrew Perry and his rapidly growing Construction and Engineering department, who are the only construction law team in Derby to have been recognised.
Sixteen lawyers have been individually highlighted in total this year, even more than in 2016. Other recommended departments and individuals not already mentioned include; Head of Commercial Property Ian Beardmore and Bev Simms; Robert Tice and Emma Tice for Employment and HR; along with all partners from the Commercial and Corporate departments, David Miller, Martyn Brierley, Rachel Bennett and Claire Tonks.
Private Client departments; Wills, Probate, Tax and Trusts and Family Law, were again ranked this year. Head of Family, Kirpal Bidmead was highlighted as an “outstanding individual” who “inspires confidence.” Trusts specialist Claire Rudkin was also recommended.
The Legal 500’s research includes speaking with key clients and associated professionals for each of the recommended law firms, which then form the basis of the quotes published in the final Legal 500 directory. Here are just a few of those key quotes that sum up what Flint Bishop is all about:
