Flexible Working

Flexible working is any method of working which deviates from the standard work pattern.
The Employment Act 2002 introduced a right to request flexible working, enabling employees with children under six (increased to children under 17, from 6 April 2009) or disabled children under 18 to request changes to the hours they work, the times when they are required to work and to work from home.
From 6 April 2007 the right was extended to any employee who is a carer for their spouse, partner or civil partner, a relative or a person who lives with them.
The person the employee proposes to care for must be aged 18 or over and be in need of care.
