The 2015 edition of The Legal 500 directory has been published and we are delighted with our rankings.

Due to increasing the scale of our work and securing new clients such as multi-million-pound turnover company Autoglass, we increased our workforce by more than 21% during the first quarter of our financial year and have announced several new lateral hires from DAC Beachcroft to aid in the development of our new counter fraud specialism.

We have also announced several award nominations and wins across our Debt Recovery, Dispute Resolution, Family & Matrimonial and Employment teams, which evidences our commitment to delivering, in the words of The Legal 500, “the first-rate service to the level of the Magic Circle, with the cost of a regional firm”.

Qamer Ghafoor, who has previously been described by The Legal 500 as an “A-star litigator with the case-handling mentality which is ‘equal to City firms’” retained his ‘leading individual’ status for Litigation, along with Andrew Cochrane. Andrew was also given the prestigious title in licensing law due to his national client base. Both Qamer and Andrew are amongst just a handful of individuals in the region to obtain such a title.

The firm celebrated a particularly-great ranking for its Property Litigation team, who The Legal 500 described the team as having “undertaken difficult negotiations with good results”. The “proactive” Debt Recovery team, along with Licensing and Family & Matrimonial also receiving excellent tiers. Our Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts ‘leader in field’ Claire Rudkin, and whose team was described as “excellent”.  Corporate and Commercial also obtained strong rankings with “ the ‘excellent’ David Miller leading the commercial team”.

Our Property team’s multi-million-pound national deals were also commended, specifically the team’s work on “development projects; highlights included advising on build to-let projects, handling build agreements, and assisting with the sale of land for residential development.” They have acted on some of the largest projects across the UK, bringing further employment and jobs to the district. Ian Beardmore leads the team which boasts a loyal client base and continue to act for regional property developers Bowmer and Kirkland and Clowes Development.

In total, The Legal 500 mentioned ten of our partners: Qamer GhafoorAndrew CochraneIan BeardmoreNick Wells, Bev Simms, David Miller, Kirpal Bidmead and Claire Rudkin, based on their work in the last 12 months.

Andrew Cochrane comments on the firm’s rankings:

“We have continued to drive the firm forward in new markets, securing new client wins and improvements to our client care, with the introduction of new IT software and improved processes. I am very happy with our rankings this year and the named individuals within each department. We have several new projects being rolled out in the next few years, such as the introduction of our new counter fraud offering.”
