27 January 2016 – Late Night Levy approved in Camden
As anticipated, the Camden late night levy was approved by the full Committee of Camden Council on the 25 January 2016.
Premises within this area will have to pay the late night levy if their Licences permit them to operate beyond midnight. If any of the businesses are members of the business improvement district, they will benefit from a thirty percent reduction in the levy payable and in addition, those premises with a non-domestic rateable value of £12,000.00 or less will similarly benefit.
The only exemption to the levy is for premises which are permitted to sell alcohol after midnight on New Year’s Eve.
There will be a short period within which a minor variation can be submitted without the requirement to pay an application fee to amend a premises licensable hours to avoid payment of the levy and any operators within the area need to act quickly before the levy comes into force on the 25 April 2016.

10 December 2015 – Late Night Levy in Camden update
The Camden Licensing Committee has now voted to adopt a late night levy for their area.
They have agreed to exempt premises selling alcohol after midnight on New Year’s Eve and have also given a discount to premises within their business improvement district area and to premises with a rateable value of £12,000.00 or less.
It is expected that the Council will ratify the Committee’s decision at the end of January and should this be the case, the levy is likely to be introduced in April 2016.
If ratified, Camden will be the third London Authority to have a late night levy. With Authorities in Liverpool and Plymouth currently under consultation, the number of late-night levies across the country is steadily increasing from Southampton to Newcastle.
