The Licensing Committee at Liverpool City Council is due to meet on Tuesday 8th September to consider launching a consultation to decide whether to implement a late night levy.

If adopted, the scheme will see licensed businesses in Liverpool that supply alcohol after midnight paying a fee to offset the costs
associated with the night time economy.

It has been estimated that around 800 businesses would be affected. The charge is calculated according to rateable value and only
approximately 20 businesses will face the highest rate of £4,440 per annum, the remainder paying between £299 and £1259 per annum.

No decision will be made until the consultation process is completed but if the scheme is given the green light it is likely to come into effect in June 2016.
