The Government is committed to introducing locally set fees as part of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2012. They are to consult on regulations for locally set licensing fees.
The measure, once introduced, will allow Council’s to set their own licensing fees. All venues in England and Wales currently pay fixed national Licensing fees depending on the type of application.
Local Authorities when setting their fees will only do so on a basis which enables them to cover their actual costs i.e. they are not allowed to make a profit on the licensing fees. They have long argued that the cost of licensing to them greatly exceeds the amount recovered in the current fee system.
