This accolade follows on from another highly successful year for us, which saw Qamer Ghafoor assume the role of Chief Executive.
In a short space of time, Qamer has applied significant strategic vision and leadership underpinned by his unbelievable drive and legal business acumen that has revolutionised the entire strategic focus of the firm resulting in unrivalled business performance and substantial growth in revenue and profit.
In the last 12 months, the firm has achieved an increase in turnover of 18% from £11,451,597 to £13,499,169, with net profit also increasing by a remarkable 73%. The number of newly-recruited staff has also risen by 41%, increasing the firm’s workforce significantly, now boasting a 170-strong team of lawyers, legal experts and support staff.
Following the award win at the 2018 Credit Awards for ‘Law Firm of the Year’, our Debt Recovery team achieved Top Tier status in this year’s The Legal 500 for the first time.
Recognised as specialists in “advising large national brands on the management of volume B2B recoveries”, the team stands out through its “single-solution recovery option, assisting not only with outsourced credit collections but also offering a legal recovery service, including representation in related disputes.”.
We are now the UK debt recovery partner for several high-profile clients such as UK Mail, Contract Natural Gas, LexisNexis (part of the RELX Group) and even one of the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers.
The Commercial Litigation team has retained its Top Tier status for their work in the past 12 months, in particular defending national insurance firm, Haven Insurance Company in the Supreme Court “demonstrating the firm’s ability to leverage its personal injury strength.”
Qamer Ghafoor was highlighted as being “hugely charismatic” and “a very good negotiator and litigator” with “a strong tactical sense.” The group also represented the Food Standards Agency in multiple High Court and County Court claims for the recovery of sums in excess of £1m.
Andrew Cochrane, Nick Wells and Lorna Trueman from the Commercial Litigation, Property Litigation and Professional Negligence teams were also recommended for combining a “robust commercial approach with excellent client-handling skills.”
The “well-respected” team “punches well above its weight” and acts for a heavyweight client base that includes government agencies and other public-sector bodies, as well as, domestic and international large public and private companies.
Other recommended departments and individuals include; Property team members Ian Beardmore, Bev Simms, Christine Owen and Lucy Carter; Robert Tice, Emma Tice, Beth Bearder and Andrew Nicklin for Employment and HR; along with all partners from our Commercial and Corporate departments, David Miller, Martyn Brierley and Rachel Bennett.
Private Client departments; Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts and Family & Matrimonial, were again ranked this year. Kirpal Bidmead is highlighted as “hugely experienced” with “a calming presence” and senior associate, Janine Hobday, was recognised as a “rising star.” Trusts and inheritance tax specialist, Claire Rudkin, was also recommended, alongside Senior Associate, Kirsten Wood, whose specialisms include wills and estates containing business assets.
The Legal 500’s research includes speaking with key clients and associated professionals for each of the recommended law firms, which then form the basis of the quotes published in the final The Legal 500 directory.
