Gui Chipchase manages a fast-paced caseload within our Licensing team.

In addition to supervising three members of the team and assisting our solicitors and partners with both on-trade and off-trade new licence applications, Gui also deals with licence variations, objections, licensing hearings, transfers and issues associated with the police, environmental health and planning authorities.

Gui is praised by clients and colleagues alike for his no-nonsense, straight-talking manner and hassle-free approach, together with his ability to find a solution to any given problem with minimal fuss.

Gui has represented both corporate and private clients at licensing hearings and has never knowingly lost a licence.

Gui has gained a wealth of experience in managing licence applications in virtually all licensing authority areas throughout the UK, gaining licences for all types of businesses from restaurants, bars and off-licences, to late-night takeaways, hotels, petrol stations, internet sellers and offices.

Having worked as both a legal advisor and a premises manager, Gui’s experience in the licensed trade is second-to-none. This inside knowledge enables him to provide not only legal but practical and pro-active advice for almost any situation that a client may face, including issues relating to licensing, statutory compliance, resourcing, environmental health and noise abatement issues.

As a highly-skilled negotiator, he protects clients against objections to licence applications and review proceedings being brought forward.

Utilising his eye for detail, Gui has a proven history of obtaining 24-hour licences for clients by successfully challenging licensing authorities on their own policies in relation to cumulative impact areas and core licensing hours.

Gui completed his Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer qualification, graduating from ‘The Law Academy’ in Liverpool and now holds his Professional Diploma in Law & Practice.

He also holds the Award for Personal Licence Holders qualification, which is the national qualification required to obtain a personal licence to lawfully sell alcohol from licensed premises.

In addition, Gui is a member of the Institute of Licensing and sits on the East Midlands Region Committee, allowing him to truly understand the differing viewpoints of local authorities and gain further invaluable knowledge in the field.
