Shirley Illston has worked within our Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts team since 1972, advising and supporting clients in protecting their assets and preparing for later life.

She frequently assists clients in writing their will, drafting disability powers of attorneys, going through probate and administering an estate, obtaining residential and nursing home funding, deputyship and other Court of Protection applications.

Shirley has built strong connections with professional bodies, particularly Social Services, receiving many referrals for vulnerable individuals who have been admitted into a care home or hospital.

During her employment with the firm, Shirley became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. Shirley has also completed specialist mental health training with iHasco, assisting her in assessing whether clients have the capacity to make their own decisions.

As a member of the Solicitors for the Elderly and a Dementia Friend of the Alzheimer’s Society, Shirley has notable experience in assisting elderly people with their finances if they go into care and obtaining care funding if appropriate.
