Lasting powers of attorney

Powers of attorney

As you get older, you may start to think about what would happen if you become physically or mentally unable to look after your own affairs.

A lasting power of attorney enables you to appoint someone (your attorney) to manage your affairs in relation to your property and finances and/or health and welfare.

The benefits of making a lasting power of attorney are that you get to choose who manages your affairs and you can even include guidance as to how your affairs are dealt with. Your attorney would have a great deal of responsibility and power and so it is important to think carefully about who you would choose.

It is important to act now as you can only make a lasting power of attorney whilst you have the mental capacity to do so.

For advice about making a lasting power of attorney, our experienced Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts team will be able to guide you through this very important process.
