An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Commercial Dispute Resolution team as a Paralegal. As one of the largest and most experienced in the Midlands, our Dispute Resolution team has consistently achieved top Legal 500 rankings in commercial litigation, professional negligence and property litigation.

This role will suit candidates who have a genuine desire to progress their career in Commercial Litigation and work within a fast-paced team yet friendly team. You will be responsible for supporting the team on both administrative and fee earning tasks, providing support to senior individuals and the department as a whole.

This role reports directly to the Head of Commercial Dispute Resolution.

This role will be based in Derby and will work Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:15 (with a one-hour lunch break per day).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with a varied caseload of Commercial Litigation matters run by senior fee earners.
  • Prepare and review documents as instructed by senior fee earners.
  • Assist with preparations for court hearings and deadlines, including disclosure, witness evidence, preparing bundles and filing documents.
  • Liaise with other parties including court staff, barristers chambers and other solicitors.
  • Open and close files in accordance with departmental and firm-wide procedures.
  • Raise and send out invoices when requested.
  • Provide department and matter financial management, credit control support and reporting.
  • Prepare mail and ensure that any enclosures/attachments required are included.
  • Assist with department and matter document management and bundles.
  • Manage department office supplies.
  • Help to maintain and manage department case management software.
  • Attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate a meticulous approach with great attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure, often to tight deadlines and be able to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Work actively within your department to create a good working atmosphere and to provide a first-class service to all fee earners and clients.
  • Ensure that all SRA/ ISO and departmental procedures that are relevant to your role are followed and complied with.
  • Take on additional tasks as reasonably required by the Head of Commercial Dispute Resolution.

You will:

  • Have a law degree (2.2 or higher) or other legal qualification.
  • Preferably have completed the Legal Practice Course.
  • Preferably have a minimum of 6 months’ litigation experience.
  • Preferably have experience in Commercial Litigation.
