An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Birmingham debt recovery operations as a team leader.

Our Debt Recovery team works with a large number of the UK’s leading organisations, providing expert commercial debt recoveries to companies such as Royal Mail, Opus Energy, CNG and Costcutter.

The team has recently won ‘Law Firm of the Year’ at the Credit Awards and ‘B2B Supplier of the Year’ at the CICM British Credit Awards for our strategy and results.

The Debt Recovery Team Leader will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the debt recovery work.

The role is responsible for supervising a team of fee-earners who are responsible for taking on matters during both pre and post-litigation.

The role focuses largely on the day-to-day supervision of the team, conducting reviews on fee-earner files and a significant personal caseload. This role will also have responsibilities in undertaking some contentious matters.

The Debt Recovery Team Leader reports directly to the Debt Recovery Managers.

Your role will include:

  • Supervising the day-to-day work and operations of the Debt Recovery team.
  • Working closely with the Debt Recovery Managers on departmental matters, ensuring a smooth process between pre and post-litigation matters.
  • Running your own senior-level caseload of debt recovery matters.
  • Contributing to business development activities for the department, including working on client pitches and tenders and attending client meetings where necessary.
  • Ensuring financial targets are met within the department, both on a personal and team level.
  • Ensuring that all firm-wide, departmental and client SLAs and procedures are followed.
  • Assisting junior fee-earners with their own caseload; offering support and guidance where needed.
  • Running regular file reviews of fee-earners, raising any issues that arise and using this as an ongoing developmental tool.
  • Producing management information as required by the Debt Recovery Managers.
  • Liaising directly with clients where necessary as their day-to-day contact.
  • Continually upskilling personal knowledge of the litigation and debt recovery processes, becoming an expert in all matters and sharing this with the wider team.

You will:

  • Have prior commercial recoveries experience, specifically within a legal setting.
  • Be able to evidence prior experience of managing a small team, preferably within debt recovery.
  • Have a track record of presenting data according to management requirements and reporting on key performance indicators (both for yourself and on behalf of a team).
  • Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines with your caseloads.
  • Have excellent knowledge of IT systems and processes.
  • Be a team player and able to lead others.

The successful candidate will be required to attend an induction and a period of training at the firm’s Derby office.
