We are recruiting for a legal secretary to join our Birmingham office, supporting both our Insurance Litigation and Debt Recovery teams.

We are excited to announce that our central Birmingham office is due to open this autumn.

Supported by our full-service headquarters in Derby, our new team of legal experts will primarily provide insurance litigation and debt recovery advice, continuing to develop our enviable client base.

The significant firmwide growth that we have seen over the past few years is set to continue with our expansion into the West Midlands.

The successful candidate will carry out the full range of legal secretary duties together with a variety of administrative tasks involving a high level of client contact.

Your role will include:

  • Preparing from dictation, verbal or written instructions correspondence and documents as required.
  • Completing filing on a daily basis.
  • Opening files in accordance with departmental and firm-wide procedures.
  • Closing and arranging storage for client matter files.
  • Requesting closed client matter files to be returned from storage as and when required.
  • Preparing mail and ensuring that any enclosures required are attached.
  • Arranging for all photocopying to be completed within the required timeframes.
  • Making appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain the diary for his/her fee earners.
  • Ensuring that any meeting rooms required are booked as necessary, arrange for any refreshments required and arrange for the tidying and clearance of the meeting room at the end of the meeting.
  • Attending clients both in person and on the telephone, providing support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care and confidentiality.
  • Drafting legal documentation under the direction and supervision of the fee earners that you are working for.
  • Sending fax communications as and when required.
  • Ensuring that at all times the highest levels and standards of client care are maintained throughout the department and to assist with the taking of telephone calls for other secretaries or fee earners in their absence.
  • Assisting with the workload of other fee earners within the department or office if requested.
  • Undertaking other tasks or duties that are within your level of competency

You will:

  • Have at least 12 months previous experience of working as a PA/legal secretary
  • Be engaging, client-focused, have excellent communication skills and have the ability to quickly build a rapport
  • Have a proactive, hardworking approach to your work
  • Be able to meet deadlines
  • Enjoy working as part of a team in a highly-focused but friendly and supportive culture
  • Be very comfortable in using a variety of IT software packages including the Microsoft Office suite
