An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, self-motivated and client-focused solicitor to join our Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts team based in Derby.

This role is responsible for managing a personal caseload of Wills Probate, Tax & Trust matters whilst also supporting senior members of the team with more complex matters. The successful candidate will also be responsible for liaising directly with clients and ensuring a high level of client care is provided at all times.

This role reports directly to the Head of Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of Wills, Probate, Tax & Trust matters that will include:
  1. Providing general advice to clients on all aspects of Wills, Probate, Tax & Trust processes.
  2. Preparing wills.
  3. Preparing lasting powers of attorney.
  4. Preparing deputyship orders.
  5. Dealing with estate administration.
  6. Advising on risks of death, divorce or bankruptcy in respect of lifetime gifting.
  7. Advising on obtaining grants of probate.
  8. Advising on letters of administration.
  9. Settling estate liabilities.
  10. Administering estates in accordance with the correct procedures.
  11. Obtaining deputyship orders from the Court of Protection as required.
  12. Acting on behalf of court-appointed deputies.
  • This role is also responsible for supporting on more complex matters alongside senior members of the team.
  • Ensure matters are kept up-to-date in systems and new advancements are communicated to the relevant team members.
  • Record all time in the Tikit system, including non-billable activities.
  • Take responsibility for managing the client experience. Attend client meetings where necessary.
  • Take a keen interest in business development for the department and contribute where required.
  • Support departmental audits as and when required.
  • Take on additional tasks as reasonably required by the Head of Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts.

You will:

  • Have current solid experience in all wills, probate, tax and trust matters mentioned above.
  • Have a minimum of a 2:1 legal degree.
  • Have proven experience in managing your own workload with minimum supervision.
  • Possess excellent client care and communication skills.
  • Be a hard-working and highly-motivated individual with the ability to work cohesively as part of a larger team.
  • Be confident in using a variety of software packages, including Microsoft Office.
