The Home Office had announced that it won’t be giving any blanket extensions for pubs to open for all World Cup matches. But it appears that Number 10 has now intervened and that some form of extension is going to be granted at least for the opening match on the 14 June 2014.
However, there is yet to be consultation. If this is to be the only match for which a blanket extension is given then Licensees will still need to apply for temporary event notices if they wish to stay open for other matches.
Equally, at this moment we do not know the extent of the extension which is proposed, so if Licensees want to stay open beyond the proposed extension time a temporary event notice will again be required.
We will update you as and when further information is known.
