We aim to understand you and your organisation to provide relevant, pragmatic and focused advice that will support your commercial aims and objectives.
Whether you have been provided with a draft contract that needs reviewing, or you need to produce your own bespoke agreement or standard set of terms and conditions, we will ensure the terms help your business control and manage its risk.
All our advice is provided in plain English and can be costed on an hourly basis, fixed cost or retainer basis so you can budget for your legal spend from the outset.
Commercial & Data Protection
We are experts in dealing with all aspects of commercial contract advice and drafting across a range of agreements from standard conditions of sale to the most complicated outsourcing arrangements.
Our commercial contract lawyers frequently work with managing directors and finance directors in organisations of all types and sizes, from owner-managed businesses to global PLCs, operating in a range of sectors.
In addition, we provide data protection support from the drafting of policies and procedures, through to advising on issues as they arise. We also regularly provide training on GDPR, data protection and intellectual property both to clients directly and to a wider audience at open events.
Many of our solicitors have an in-depth knowledge of working within a range of different industries having undertaken secondments at multi-national blue-chip companies. This has given them valuable experience of working with and understanding the requirements of the pressures faced by in-house counsel.
Our Commercial team has been consistently recognised in The Legal 500 and are noted for their “commercial approach,” “exceptional service” and “fast response times.”
“Saima has been incredibly helpful in working with us to sign a long and complex contract for the provision of our lateral flow tests. Saima is very easy to work with, and has a knack of being able to explain legal jargon in a way that is easily understood so that negotiations can move forward quickly. She has also helped us to implement improvements to our commercial documents across the business. We would recommend working with Saima, and look forward to working with her ourselves in the future.”
“The team is accessible, provides quick responses to queries, and helps with complex issues.”
“Our working relationship with Flint Bishop has positively changed our approach to reviewing and entering into contracts, and also provided us with a better understanding of data protection legislation. The team at Flint Bishop offers clear, pragmatic and timely advice and always communicates in a friendly and professional manner.
We were introduced to the firm by a procurement practitioner, and from our very first meeting, it was clear that they understood the pressures we were facing with updating our contracts. We had a backlog of contracts where we didn’t have the time or expertise to review their robustness concerning the various contractual and related data protection issues.
Because cost certainty is important to us as a charitable organisation, Flint Bishop set up a fixed costs retainer package for us which we have since renewed. The benefit of having a legal team on hand to deal with any contractual queries we might have, without the need to ask for quotes or sign letters of engagement each time, makes its service easy to access. Our previous concerns about interpreting legal provisions and getting contracts over the line in a timely manner, are now a thing of the past, thanks to the legal support from Flint Bishop.”
Head of Finance and Resources
“I have been instructing Flint Bishop’s commercial team for several years and enjoy working with them. They have taken time to understand our business as well as our risk profile. This has resulted in their advice being tailored to our needs and provided to what are frequently tight timescales. I would happily recommend their services to other businesses.”
Joint Chief Executive and Group Financial Director
“We have used the commercial team at Flint Bishop for many years, and they completely changed our relationship with lawyers. Before we started working with them, we faced challenges whenever a contractual or data protection issue arose. We needed to get a quick answer to our query or advice on how to respond to a client but we did not want to have to start again with a solicitor, update them on our business, agree on costs with them and sign terms of engagement each time we needed help. Before the retainer with Flint Bishop, we relied on what seemed common sense, often making our judgments based on information from internet research. This left us unsure of our position and lacking in confidence needed to negotiate contacts.”
“Flint Bishop provide clear and pragmatic advice on contractual and data protection issues, revisions to our terms and conditions, as well as training and updates on relevant legal issues for a fixed monthly fee. This retainer is perfect for us as it is like having your own legal team at a fraction of the cost of employing one. The service is easy to access, we pick up the phone or drop the team a quick email and, the more we use it, the better the understanding Flint Bishop have of our business, and the more we learn about contractual risk and data protection compliance. We no longer worry about queries raised by our clients or documents that they ask us to sign as we know that Flints are there to help whenever we need them.”
“We refer all of our commercial contract work to the team at Flint Bishop. They are very responsive and clear in the advice that they give us and we enjoy working with them. David has also provided training on the Bribery and Modern Slavery Acts which was very well received and which formed an important part of our wider compliance plan. We would not hesitate to recommend their services to other businesses.”
“Flint Bishop has consolidated its reputation in Derby and surrounding areas and has also built up key relationships with a significant number of national and international clients. On the corporate side, under the leadership of experienced dealmaker Martyn Brierley, the firm has become a go-to for M&A, joint ventures, MBOs and financing transactions. It has developed a particular niche in the education sector, where it advises large multi-academy trusts on academy conversions, second-generation acquisitions of academies and general governance issues; Rachel Bennett is a key contact in this space and also handles transactions in the IT, telecoms and veterinary sectors. Elsewhere, David Miller and others provide commercial contracts advice, and also assist clients with ancillary issues, such as data protection and intellectual property.”
“The team at Flint Bishop have been an invaluable support in helping us implement the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018. They have provided sound advice in difficult scenarios, assisted with writing responses affirming us as a data controller when local authorities suggest we are a data processor and provide a great sounding board when I need to discuss understanding and application of the regulations.”
Data Protection Officer
“David has an incredible talent for cutting to the chase and identifying the most important aspects of a problem in order to arrive at a well thought out conclusion. I find his approach to law and business very refreshing as he always demonstrates a very thorough knowledge in his areas of expertise yet manages to make you feel more like a colleague than a client, a rare quality in this profession! David also possesses an uncanny talent for connecting people with common interests in order to try and further their combined objectives. His introduction to and endorsement of any of his clients, associates or friends is sufficient for me to adopt them as a colleague and start working with them on the basis of total trust from day one.”
