Overview

We believe that a commitment to the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) not only makes good business sense, but also complements our business strategy and corporate values.

Our CSR Policy is based on the following:

a. Being aware of how our activities and services impact upon the environment and the people around us;
b. Identifying objectives across the business aimed at continual improvement;
c. Being aware of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice that are applicable to our business; and
d. Developing relationships with our suppliers and contractors to ensure they embrace and share our values, commitments and approach.

Who we are & what we do

Flint Bishop is a multi-award winning, UK Top 200 law firm, employing some of the most talented legal experts in the Midlands.

Established in Derby over a century ago, the outstanding quality of our staff and service levels are underlined by our market leading ISO quality assurance certifications, industry awards and peer ranking.

We represent several of the UK’s leading organisations including government agencies, public sector bodies and PLCs, providing pragmatic and solution-orientated advice recognised by both the legal and business community.

Looking after our employees

We are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all members of staff. We constantly seek to create a diverse workforce; attracting, developing and promoting employees based solely on objective criteria and talent. Our prestigious ‘Investors in People Gold’ award recognises that Flint Bishop is a leading place to work.

Responsible trading

We are committed to maintaining high standards amongst our suppliers and contractors.

We oppose the exploitation of workers and will not tolerate forced labour, or labour which involves physical, verbal or psychological harassment or intimidation of any kind.

We will not accept human trafficking or the exploitation of children and young people in our business and undertake all reasonable and practical steps to ensure that these standards are maintained.

The Flint Bishop Law Academy

This academy has been created with a clear mission; to provide a platform to develop the legal skills of our current and prospective staff, building pipeline talent and essential skills for the business and those enrolled.

Through diverse and challenging development programmes, those enrolled on to the academy will build key competencies that will allow them to further their legal careers. The scheme seeks to bridge skills gaps from education to workplace, paralegal to trainee solicitor, and beyond.

Our partnerships with local universities allow academy delegates access to further education, even after finishing their law degree.

Community engagement

We recognise that we play an important role in our local communities and we aim to make contributions that will add value and help improve them.

We regularly organise events to raise money for charities within our communities and want to build a culture across the business that promotes staff volunteering and fundraising activities.

Recent examples of our charitable initiatives include entering a team in the Derby 10K, organising a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’, hosting a ‘Food Bank Appeal’ and taking part in a ‘Fast for a Day’ challenge in celebration of Ramadan.

We actively encourage staff members to participate in community projects and groups and have many employees who are school governors and who serve on various charity committees.

We have built close relationships with local universities, for which the firm has sponsored numerous student awards. We also support a variety of events which provide students with the opportunity to work alongside some of our legal experts.

Protecting the environment

We understand that managing the impact that our business has on the environment is both responsible and ethical.

Our environmental policy is a statement about our commitment to ensure that everyone within the business is aware of how our activities and services affect the environment and how we can minimise the impact we have on it.

Each of us can take responsibility to reduce and conserve energy by taking part in energy efficiency schemes, and major environmental benefits can be achieved by applying best practice to the management and disposal of the waste we produce.

Our target is to recycle 90% of the waste we produce.

We attained the ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Standard in September 2011.
