Mary Premkumar is a Solicitor in Flint Bishop’s Finance Dispute Resolution team, based in Leeds.

She advises lenders, financial institutions and businesses on a wide range of financial services disputes, debt recovery matters and enforcement proceedings.

Mary combines strong technical expertise with a practical and client-focused approach, helping clients navigate complex disputes efficiently and effectively. Her experience across both contentious financial services work and commercial recoveries gives her a thorough understanding of the legal and commercial considerations that underpin successful outcomes.

Mary's experience

Mary specialises in finance and banking-related disputes, with experience advising on secured and unsecured debt recovery, residential possession proceedings, receivership matters, financial services litigation and commercial recoveries.

Prior to joining Flint Bishop, Mary trained with a leading national law firm within its Financial Services Disputes, Banking Litigation and Commercial Recoveries teams. During this time, she managed her own caseload of possession, receivership and debt recovery claims while supporting clients on a broad range of contentious financial services matters. Her work included advising on litigation strategy, progressing complex recoveries, liaising with counsel and stakeholders, and achieving commercially focused resolutions.

Before qualifying as a solicitor, Mary spent almost four years as a Paralegal within a specialist Financial Services Disputes and Investigations team. In this role, she was responsible for managing a substantial caseload of banking litigation and pre-action matters, gaining extensive experience in disclosure exercises, drafting defences and costs documents, negotiating settlements and supporting complex recovery actions.

Mary’s experience gives her a strong understanding of the challenges faced by lenders and financial institutions, as well as the importance of balancing commercial objectives with effective dispute resolution strategies. She regularly supports clients throughout the litigation process, providing clear advice and practical solutions tailored to their objectives.
