Richard Etherington is a Senior Associate Solicitor and Higher Courts Advocate in the Regulatory & Corporate Defence team.
Since qualifying in 2012, he has built a specialist practice in criminal defence, representing clients in some of the most serious and complex cases. Straight-talking, pragmatic, and dedicated, Richard is recognised for his advocacy and client care, providing clear guidance at every stage of proceedings.

Richard joined Flint Bishop in September 2025, bringing significant expertise in representing clients facing the full spectrum of criminal matters, from road traffic offences to murder and infanticide, as well as regulatory and health & safety prosecutions.
A Higher Courts Advocate since 2021, he is able to represent defendants at every stage, from police station interviews to Crown Court trials, ensuring continuity and consistency for his clients. He also defends military personnel at Courts Martial and university students in misconduct proceedings, particularly where allegations of sexual misconduct are involved.
Richard is a member of the Law Society’s Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme, demonstrating his certified commitment to high standards in defence work.
His ability to combine meticulous preparation with level-headed advocacy has earned him recognition in the Legal 500 for his approachable style, practical advice, and quality of service.
