We are pleased to announce that Jessica Gray has been appointed Registrar of the Diocese of Sheffield, further strengthening Flint Bishop’s Ecclesiastical & Charities practice and our provision of diocesan registry services across Yorkshire.

The appointment marks an important milestone in Jessica’s career and is her first as a Diocesan Registrar, following a professional journey that has been closely connected to ecclesiastical law from the outset.

Jessica began her legal career at Lupton Fawcett as a Registry Clerk. While serving as Provincial Registry Clerk in York, she studied for her law degree before qualifying as a Solicitor with the firm.

She subsequently returned to the Ecclesiastical team, working alongside Louise Connacher on registry and wider ecclesiastical matters before being appointed Deputy Registrar for the Dioceses of York and Sodor and Man.

Following the formal appointment process, Jessica was sworn in by the Bishop of Sheffield on 25 August and assumed her duties as Registrar on 1 September.

In her role, Jessica will advise the Bishop and senior diocesan officers on ecclesiastical matters, oversee licences and faculty work, and provide wider legal and procedural support to the Diocese of Sheffield.

Her appointment means Flint Bishop now provides Registry services to the Dioceses of York, Sheffield and Leeds, giving the firm responsibility for all three Yorkshire diocesan registries and further strengthening our ecclesiastical legal offering across the region.

Alongside Jessica’s appointment, Tim Lewis has joined the firm as Registry Clerk, based at Church House in Rotherham, the offices of the Diocese of Sheffield. Tim brings significant experience to the role and further strengthens our Ecclesiastical & Charities team.

Together, these appointments represent another important step in the continued development of our Ecclesiastical & Charities practice, adding further depth and expertise while strengthening Flint Bishop’s provision of specialist ecclesiastical legal services across Yorkshire.
