Extension to the provisions of the Business and Planning Act 2020 and an increase in the number of temporary event notices permitted for 2022 and 2023.

The Business and Planning Act 2020 did two things to try and assist the hospitality industry through the pandemic.
Firstly, it provided a streamlined process for applying for pavement licences. This provision was due to lapse on 30 September 2021, however, this has now been extended for a further 12 months and it will now last until 30 September 2022.
Secondly, subject to compliance with some procedural requirements, it allowed off sales until 23:00 for premises that did not have the benefit of off sales on their licence. Again this provision has been extended to 30 September 2022.
Finally, the number of temporary events notices allowable in each calendar year has been extended from 15 to 20 over a maximum of 26 rather than the previous 21 days for 2022 and 2023.
All of these measures are subject to Parliamentary approval.
