This Good Divorce Week, our Resolution Members at Flint Bishop are highlighting the importance of approaching separation and divorce with empathy, respect, and understanding.

Resolution is a national network of family law professionals who are committed to constructive problem-solving. Its members follow a Code of Practice designed to help separating couples reduce conflict, reach fair agreements, and prioritise the wellbeing of any children involved.

The ‘Year of the Code’

2025 has been named the Year of the Code by Resolution, encouraging practitioners to apply its principles at the forefront of their work. The Code guides members to:

  • Reduce or manage conflict and confrontation, such as by avoiding inflammatory language;
  • Support and encourage families to put children’s best interests first;
  • Act with honesty, integrity, and objectivity;
  • Help clients understand and manage the long-term financial and emotional implications of their decisions;
  • Listen to and treat everyone with respect and without judgement; and
  • Use their experience and knowledge to guide clients through their options.

A better way to separate

We see first-hand the benefits of this approach with our solicitors working to minimise stress and confrontation, helping clients reach positive outcomes efficiently and with dignity.

In recent years, we’ve seen a growing use of non-court dispute resolution methods such as mediation, arbitration, early neutral evaluation, and collaborative law. Recognising that not every case needs to go to court allows families to work together more effectively towards long-term, workable solutions.
