Motoring and driving offences
As the police are not required to stop every driver suspected of committing a motoring offence, you may be made aware of allegations by a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). This is a written warning that you are going to be facing a prosecution soon. It is therefore vital that if you receive one, you should get in touch with Flint Bishop defence team immediately.
The NIP must be sent to the driver or registered owner of a vehicle so that it is received within the normal course of post within 14 days of an alleged offence. If you did not receive this within 14 days, please contact us as you may be able to avoid prosecution.
If you did receive the NIP on time, and you are requested to confirm driver details, you then have 28 days to reply and confirm who the driver was at the time of the alleged offence. Failure to comply can lead to additional penalties, including disqualification from driving, penalty points on your licence and a fine of £1,000 or more.
For advice on what to do upon receipt of an NIP/request for driver details, please get in touch with us.
