In the event of an incident at your licensed premises, it is important to record the details of what happened as soon as possible. Should the police, licensing authorities or insurers need to investigate, it will be easier to provide the information from a log sheet than from memory, as important small details may be forgotten.

Such incidents may include crime and disorder, ejection of customers, refusal of entry, theft, an accident, or other occurrences that might be investigated later.

Below is a list of important details you should log:

  • Date and time
  • The type of incident
  • Details of what happened
  • Whether it was captured on CCTV
  • Who logged the incident
  • Whether the police were called and the outcome of the call
  • What action was taken by staff

To be prepared to log this information, keeping a log sheet with the criteria already set out can be an enormous help to ensure nothing is forgotten.

In particular, it may be useful to have this log sheet ahead of hosting any special events, such as large parties or sports nights.
