We achieved the Committed to Equality kite mark after most of our employees undertook disability awareness training with Sight Ed over two years.
Sight Ed is a Social Enterprise that works to enable disabled people to get equal access to information, products, services and opportunities. The ‘Committed to Equality’ kite mark gives people with a disability the confidence that they will get the service they expect and have a right to.
The disability awareness training was tailored to Flint Bishop’s needs, ensuring that it enhanced their employee’s grasp of how people with a disability experienced working with their firm. Under the Equality Act 2010, all employers and service providers have a duty to treat people fairly and not to discriminate. So Flint Bishop saw it as essential to get a useful working knowledge of equality and how to improve its services for disabled people.
As a Social Enterprise, Sight Ed donates any profits to its designated charity partner, local charity Sight Support Derbyshire, which Flint Bishop also supports with fundraising activities and events.
Sight Ed Trainer, Claire Winfield says:
“Flint Bishop has clearly demonstrated its commitment to embracing equality and to providing accessible, high-quality services to all; including disabled people. It has trained employees to work with people with a wide range of disabilities, providing non-judgemental and non-patronising legal services and support.
At Sight Ed, we recognise that Legislation is important but we also know that simply reciting legal documents word for word is never going to enthuse or help people to understand disability. Interactive Training Sessions that get delegates involved in practical exercises that inspire as well as educate is what we aim to do.”
A Flint Bishop spokesperson says:
“As one of Derbyshire’s largest employers, it is very important to us that we train our employees to the best of their ability when it comes to customer care. Being an approachable, inclusive company is central to our corporate social responsibility programme, which looks at every element of how we support and affect our local community.”
