Some licensed premises are required to keep and maintain a CCTV system for the prevention of crime and disorder.
It is important to ensure that someone is responsible for making sure that the CCTV is working properly at regular intervals of time.
In the worst-case scenario, if the CCTV is not functioning and there is an incident, a failure to have checked the CCTV may be considered by the local authorities to be a failure to uphold the objectives of the Licensing Act 2003.
To prevent this type of situation, it is advised to assign staff members the responsibility to regularly check the CCTV system, and for them to log on a sheet when this has been done.
