Two promotions announced just two weeks after a major recruitment drive was announced.
Established a century ago, the firm has grown substantially in the last few years both in terms of size and reputation.
Lorna Trueman, who joined Flint Bishop in 2010, has been promoted to Commercial Litigation Partner. Lorna has over 10 years of litigation experience and acts for large multi-national companies dealing with high value and complex claims. In particular, she specialises in contractual disputes, land and property disputes, professional negligence claims, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes and complex contentious probate claims. Lorna is praised by her clients for her robust advice and commercial approach which sees her getting excellent results. She sits within one of the biggest litigation teams in the Midlands and the quality of client wins and works the team takes on continues to improve year on year.
The second promotion is Defendant Insurance Partner, Jonathan Gilbert. Jon has been with the firm for over 23 years and has amassed immense experience in his specialist area during this time. He deals with cases involving technical indemnity and insurance law disputes, including MIB Technical Committee matters; cases involving high value and complex injury claims/liability disputes; Court of Appeal litigation, as well as multi-track and high-value credit hire cases. Jon acts for well-known brands, motor insurers and government bodies defending hundreds of technical claims each year.
Both Lorna and Jon report directly to one of few ‘leading lawyers’, Qamer Ghafoor, who is the firm’s Chief Executive. He says;
“In the past few years, the firm has seen a strong growth in many practice areas servicing both local and national clients, including several government agencies and is recognised as one of the leading law firms to go to. The promotion of Lorna and Jon builds on that success and is in recognition of their first class technical expertise, client service and leadership qualities.”
Since the start of 2015, Flint Bishop has invested in a number of new staff hires: a recruitment drive which is set to increase the current staff count by more than 21% as they take on more new clients in addition to two new partner promotions, the leading law firm has now promoted five members of staff to Associate positions this summer.
The promotions were marked at the Staff Annual General Meeting which saw almost 150 members of staff in attendance and was held in the Derby Quad this month.
Sundeep Sandhu currently works in Litigation, which is one of the largest departments at Flint Bishop and works on matters involving contractual disputes and property litigation. Her clients include companies, individuals, financial institutions as well as several Government Departments. Her work often runs into multi-million-pound disputes and she assists many profiled Partners in the department with their cases, including ‘leading lawyer’, Qamer Ghafoor. Sundeep is very well liked amongst her clients and her expertise in litigation has been noted by many as “one to watch”.
Finally, Kirsten Wood’s area of expertise is Wills, Tax, Trusts and Probate with Kirsten working on some large scale estates across Derbyshire. Kirsten has a particular specialism in inheritance tax and dealing with trusts, business assets and agricultural assets. Her matters vary in size and value with many reaching the millions. Kirsten also holds the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) qualification.
Andrew Cochrane said;
“We’re delighted with the new round of Associates this year which was marked at our Annual General Meeting.
We pride ourselves in recognising talent at Flint Bishop and all staff should be very proud of their achievements to date.
We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the region’s most talented lawyers and support staff which is why, in the coming months, we will be rolling out a number of new programmes to support all staff in their career development plans.”
