We are pleased to announce that our Commercial Dispute Resolution, Licensing, Corporate & Finance, Employment, and Family & Matrimonial departments have all been recognised in the Chambers and Partners UK Legal Guide 2025.
Chambers and Partners is the leading independent professional legal research company, operating across 200 jurisdictions. It highlights the very best legal talent in the industry, connecting client needs with the right expertise across various disciplines.
Our Commercial Dispute Resolution team has retained its status in the Litigation category in the highly competitive Midlands region. The team is noted for advising national and multinational corporations on a variety of contentious matters, including complex contractual issues, insurance disputes, and professional negligence cases. One client provided the following testimonial: “The service levels and responsiveness of everyone at Flint Bishop have been exceptional. We cannot praise the entire team highly enough.”
Qamer Ghafoor has retained the prestigious Eminent Practitioner status, being described as an “experienced litigator” with significant expertise in a broad range of commercial disputes as well as financial and insolvency litigation. He received high praise from several of the firm’s key clients, such as: “Qamer gave generously of his time to understand our issues and offer suitable courses of action for us to take. He met with us and personally took charge of investigating matters we had raised.”
Senior Associate, Kelly Savage, has once again been recognised as an Associate to Watch. Kelly is noted for her abilities in handling complex commercial and corporate disputes, including claims for unpaid monies, contract disputes, and insurance claims. She is described as “super-bright, extremely hard-working, and diligent.”
Following consistently high regional rankings in previous years, our Licensing department has been awarded UK-wide recognition for the second year running. It is highlighted for its specialism in pub licensing issues, including licence variations, new applications, and reviews.
Licensing practice lead, Andrew Cochrane, has been named a Notable Practitioner, with one client noting: “Andrew is very approachable and incredibly knowledgeable. He always gives practical, commercial advice and is always readily available when I need help. I have complete confidence in his advice.”
In addition to our Employment team being ranked for the fourth consecutive year, we are pleased to report that Employment lead, Briony McDermott, has received first-time recognition in Chambers UK, with a further recommendation as an Associate to Watch.
Noted for advising clients on a wide range of HR matters, contentious tribunal proceedings, and internal investigations, Briony has been described as “always attentive, professional, and provides excellent and timely advice.”
Our Corporate & Finance team retains its ranking in the East Midlands in the Corporate M&A: SME/Owner-Managed Businesses category, with one client stating: “The team at Flint Bishop is readily available, and the lawyers are always willing and able to join meetings at any time of day. The lawyers are very personable and friendly.”
Practice head, Martyn Brierley, maintains his ranking as a Notable Practitioner and is praised as an “exceptional communicator” who “always makes himself available, is good at explaining things to people who don’t understand the nuances of the situation, and brings a good level of practicality, as well as legal expertise.”
Having previously been ranked in the Derby and Surrounds region for several years, our Family & Matrimonial team is now recognised with Band 2 status in the broader East Midlands region. The Chambers UK research team noted: “The group is experienced in advising on cases with high-value assets, often relating to family businesses, pensions, and trusts.”
Partner & Head of Family & Matrimonial, Angela Davis, retains her status as a Notable Practitioner. She is praised for her significant experience in handling a broad range of matters, including financial issues arising from divorce proceedings. One client commented: “Angela is an accomplished and skilled advocate; she is always approachable and eager to listen and understand.”
“I would like to congratulate all of our teams and individuals who have retained their status as recommended practitioners this year. I am especially pleased for Briony, as it is always rewarding to see when members of our team receive first-time recognition.
“This year’s Chambers and Partners’ rankings, coupled with such positive feedback from our clients, are truly representative of the results our commercial and private client teams achieve on a daily basis. It provides reassurance to our clients that they are working with industry-leading professionals who are both experienced and passionate about the work they do.”
